I'm sure these lists are imperfect and that I've forgotten things but what I did remember to include was very enjoyable.

Wow cutting back on the lists to jus the best of, huh? I'm not sure I like that, ;) How is the Arthur Doyle? What do you think of Tapscott, I love Dark Tree but I've not heard anything else by him that stand up to it.
ReplyDeleteI'm vetting the list so y'all don't have to, ;-) I'm playing a lot of different stuff that probably does not need to be listed. Let's see how that goes. Re: Tapscott, I've been warming to him. I really liked "The Call" this time around. There's another large group avant thing he does that is scarce as hen's teeth, but I've heard that it is getting reissued by the same guy who did the Hemphill reissue. I like "Dial B for Barbara" and "Dissent or Descent." The solo piano music is actually pretty good, located midway between Bill Evans and Cecil Taylor ;-). No fireworks but thoughtful harmonic/melodic development. The Doyle is not a great recording but if you crank it up, it definitely gets the job done. The music is a blast.
ReplyDeleteI met the guy that engineers the Hemphill, Dixon, & Carter/Bradford at the Capital Audio Show. Nice guy and good reissues. I have a couple of those Tapscott solo, I need to get to know.
