Some very cool stuff on this list Mr T including: McPhee’s “Topology”, Feldman 3 CD set, Kalaparusha vinyl, Cassava Balls CD, PNL & Brotz new release, Lacy “School Days” vinyl, and Kowald & Wadada FMP.
ReplyDeleteI don’t know what I have of Kalaparusha, what do you think of those you listed and his playing? How is the Blue Notes stuff? I don’t think I have heard the right stuff.
You are killing me with your Moondoc statement, I have been trying to get Moondoc’s Revolt for a long time, all the eremite releases are killer and he just reissued “Triplet”.
I need to circle back with my Andrew Hill collection pointing out the Gilmore on horn Blue Notes, they are probably must haves and the reissues are not hard to come by.
There is a Cyrille box coming out on Soul Note that I would highly recommend since David S Ware is a horn on many of them. I trucked down most of the vinyl but the price is right for those boxes, I have the Lacy, Dixon and Braxton—excellent stuff at a value price.
Great list!
Regarding Kalaparusha, they are all pretty good, but I would try "Peace and Blessing" and "Humility" first.
ReplyDeleteThe Moondoc I picked up new somewhere, at the list price. I'm like, "Isn't this OP?" So that was a good find. I had the same experience with "Test." I think I have "Triplet."
I have been going back to my BN stuff. For a few years I couldn't touch it, just wasn't interested. Now I am again. Stuff like Hill and Larry Young are still really strong. So the BN's are back on the playlist. I can't afford to have them just as wall decoration ;-).
The problem for me with the Soul Note boxes is that I usually have 3 of 5 or 4 of 6 of every box either on vinyl and/or CD. So do I push ahead with vinyl or get the box and sell the vinyl? I'm tired of all the redundancy. This raises the issue we discussed: is it better to get the box for $30,or the individual vinyl for, let's say, $100?
