Changes in the Sound Room

There were some changes to my downstairs stereo in 2014.  The Rega CD player was moved upstairs and replaced with an Oppo 103 CD/DVD Player.  The Oppo acts a music server to a Synology DS411slim NAS (Network Area Storage).  This allows me to tap into my over one TB of digital music.  It has redundant disk storage and back up.  This is actually a step back in digital sound but a step forward in digital music convenience and management.  The future may lead to adding a used DAC (Digital Audio Converter).

On the analog side, added a Zu Audio’s Denon DL-103 R Mk.II cartridge with a Bob’s Devices CineMag 3440 AH (Blue) Transformer (MC) Step-Up Device. Wow, what a change this made.  The system has included moving coils from Adcom, Sumiko, and Ortofon but this has quantum change in getting dynamic and low level percussion & bass information from the groves.  This magical combination has been featured many times at the Capital Audio Show.  Still looking to upgrading the pre-amp, phono pre-amp, turntable and tonearm
At the back-end of the system, an old pair of Sennheisers have been replaced with Mr. Speaker Alpha Dog Headphones.  Again, big “wow” reaction.  The bass and smoothness across the spectrum makes it a huge improvement.  This can also be attributed to Burson SoloistHeadphone Amp / Pre Amp with is high quality build solid state that is very versatile.

There are a lot of big plans hopefully in the near future including speakers and turntable, will be trying to make those dreams a reality.

  1. Nice! I talked to the dude from Bob's Devices when I was thinking of getting a VPI TT. Nice guy. Lives in Wilmington, NC. Thanks for supporting my local economy, Bill.
