Lately Listening

1. Cody Yantis/Nathan McLaughlin/Josh Mason/Joe Houpert, Alice Sketches (Digitalis CS): Short sketches from each artist.
2. Catherine Lamb, Matter/Moving (Winds Measure 2CS):  One of my favorite releases so far in 2014.
3. Bill Orcutt, Two Weeks in Another Town (Palilalia CS): Live.
4. Various Artists, Traces Three (Recollections GRM): Another fine entry in this reissue series.
5. Bill Orcutt, Gerty Loves Pussy (Palilalia CS): My favorite of Orcutt's recent cassette releases.
6. Paul Bley, Open to Love (ECM LP): Mmm. Forgot how much I enjoy this record.
7. Strange Mountain, Ancient Eyes (Twin Springs CS): Drone.
8. Vanessa Rossetto, Whole Stories (Kye LP): Her best work to date, which is saying a lot.
9. Ashley Paul, White Night (Cassauna CS): Doing her thing.
10. Graveyards, Blues for the Night People (Troubleman Unlimited 2LP): Screeching and scratching to crickets.
11. Mary Halvorson, Bending Bridges (Firehouse 12 2LP): Great music. Really noisy pressing, though.
12. Martin Kuchen & Landaeus Trio (Moserobie LP): Most intriguing. There's a complex languidness to this album.
13. Brotzmann/Edwards/Noble/Adasiewicz, Mental Shake (Otoroku LP): Blowout.
14. Jackie-O Motherfucker, Flags of the Sacred Harp (ATP CD): Feeling old.
15. Sun Ra, Secrets of the Sun (Atavistic CD): Off-kilter classics.
16. Sun Ra, Concert for the Comet Kohoutek (ESP Disk CD): Title jam is killer. Made my daughter move around a lot in the womb.
17. Wadada Leo Smith, Kabell Years 1971 - 1979 (Tzadik 4CD): The solo cuts really stands out, but some great stuff on these albums.
18. Peter Brotzmann/Harry Miller/Louis Moholo (Cien Fuegos 2LP): These reissue LPs are always so well done. A real treat.
19. Talk West, All Worries at Once (Marmara CS): Rural drone.
20. Alan Silva & the Celestial Communications Orchestra, Seasons (BYG-Actuel 3LP): Yes!
