Pairing #1 - Hardywood Sidamo, Sun Ra, Loftus and Godspeed

Finding the proper pairing is important in life.  When listening I tend to enjoy an adult beverage.  Last night while drinking a Hardywood Sidamo coffee stout I listened to Sun Ra Disco 3000, Loftus & Godspeed Your Black Emperor.  Initially, this beer has all the characteristics of the typical coffee stout full and flavorful.  Take a second and you get a balance and a complexity that is not common.  There is raspberry and other dry fruits like dates, bourbon and a smoothness that makes this a Richmond VA brewery one that I will come back to.   Disco 3000 is a newer purchase for me and it perked my ears in the proper way, again complex, balanced and flavorful, getting the theme.  Gilmore smokes on this one.  Loftus are a members of Califone and Tortoise in an avant-blues, rock, folk blend. Picture Keith Richards with Graham Parsons while Jaki Liebezeit is playing bongos after drinking an industrial size tank of illegal cough syrup.  Finally symphonic rock, a term that makes me cringe, is Goodspeed.  The Montreal based political ensemble is a big drink of dark of quite passages and crescendos.  It blended nicely with the stout.  The first installment of pairings, was it that bad?
