David S. Ware dies in 2012 but his music and his energy live on. He would have been 65 on Nov 7, 2014. A true fire breather with the horn and his skill and range made him a giant in free jazz.
Ware's discography is on a variety of labels. There are some Columbia releases that are easy to get compared to the DIW, Silheart, and HatHut. Anything with Matthew Shipp is a must have. Shipp really is up for Ware's challenge. My library includes some good vinyl, including a rare copy of "Birth of a Being" on Hat Hut. Also, be on the look out for the Andrew Cyrille & Maono releases with him and the Cecil Taylor release "Darkness Unto Themselves"
Nice. That Live in Vilnius record is killer. Still trying to track down Birth of a Being...
ReplyDeleteYeah, I forked out a bunch of bucks probably 6 years ago to score that. it is rare. What do you think of that 2 LP Frank Lowe on Triple Point Records http://www.triplepointrecords.com/ ?
ReplyDeleteDamn it. Wasn't aware of that release. I was feeling the clips. $94 is a bit steep, though. I'll have to mull it over. Check this out: https://scissortail.bandcamp.com/album/hard-again-the-river-1-2-3-4
